Having clients that come with anxiety, clients who are very picky or even giving you a hard time can be very stressful . Keep your composure and stay calm .
Clients with anxiety
Anxiety is something we all have but some people have it worst . Doing extentions you are focused on the eyes and in order to do extentions the eyes have to be taped and shut for a period of time . A lot of clients tend to feel overwhelmed getting fills because one of their scenes has been taken away . If a client is nervous you should be able to tell in the beginning with the consultation. Your job is to make sure the client is comfortable and it is very easy . Offer your client a blanket or a neck pillow to help them stay physically comfortable. People with anxiety tend to overthink a lot when it is silent , so to avoid your client from spooking themselves out just laying there is to just explain everything you are doing . This is where your knowledge comes into play. A lot of clients have no idea what you are doing but just letting them know when your going to tape them down . Here is a prime example: “ I’m going to have you look up and back in going to tape down your bottom lashes so the top doesn’t get stuck together. This will be the most uncomfortable feeling right now but once you are closed you will hardly feel a thing “. Letting your client know what to expect, helps the mind already know what’s going to happen and that will keep them thinking about what your doing and not everything else . While you are lashing if you can tell your client is getting overwhelmed. You will see their brows scrunch a little or they are starting to breathe different, just talk to them to distract them. Keeping your client thinking about a conversation works . Even if you have a client and they mention something about feeling overwhelmed. Calmly and slowly say here let me turn the fan on low and you will feel a breeze and most times that helps even if it’s just pointed down instead of on the lashes will help . If your client is giving a higher reaction . Take the tape off and let them sit up. It will re balance your client and ask them “ what can I do to help ?” Lets them know you care . If you give any different type of tone to a client with anxiety . It will make it worst for them. They will feel like you are getting annoyed . And I know it’s easy to get annoyed when a client is giving you a hard time but you have to stay calm for them to stay calm.
Picky clients
We have all had a client who has given us a hard time on tiny details . We have all have clients give us attitude. If you can sense before you even start the client will be tough , offer things in the beginning. “ hey my name is __ , we are going to be right on this bed . You can hop up and get comfy I will be right over after I wash my hands , did you happen to want a blanket at all ?” Shows them you are caring about their experience. After they lay down , do a thorough consultation and pull up pictures and ask them for pictures and agree on a single image . Do you and the client knows what to expect. The last thing you want is the client to keep asking for more things after you are done about there lashes . But , when this happens , all you have to do is stay calm and talk slowly and ask “ can you show me what you don’t like so I can fix it for you?” NEVER say “ what do you want me to do?” That can come off stern or sassy and make the client even more unhappy. It does not matter how many times you have to re-tape them . The client is paying and deserves what they came in for . That’s why it is so important to be on the same page before you start . If the client is questioning one spot . Brush it for them , explain sometimes you have to play with the extension to sit right . Let your client hold a mirror and let them watch you brushing, then simply use a spoulie end to point out certain spots they have concerns about so you are on the same page.
Other tips
Ask throughout the service,
“ does everything still feel ok?”
If you see the eyes are watering ,
“ are your eyes burning at all ?”
Clean up the tears and turn the fan on for a little while . Or use sensitive eye gel jars on each side of the face . If the client is still burning , switch to sensitive glue or adjust the tape a little bit .
ALWAYS make sure your client is comfortable the whole time to give the best experience.
“ what can I do to help you?” Is the best question to figure anything out .
Keep the energy positive! Don’t talk sassy or stern at all. Talk soft and slow . Talking quick can throw things off and the client will feel like you are rushing them .
